Dr. McCormick is a primary care physician and is the Director of the CHJL. He is also Co-Director of the Center for Health Equity Education and Advocacy at the Cambridge Health Alliance. He is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Co-Director of the Harvard Medical School Fellowship Program in General Medicine and Primary Care. His research interests include US health care financing, health care reform and access to and quality of care for marginalized patient populations, including the uninsured, racial and ethnic minorities, immigrants, prisoners, veterans and patients receiving care in safety-net systems of care. His research work has been supported by foundations, and state and federal grants including the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI). Dr. McCormick is a past recipient of the A. Clifford Barger Award for excellence in mentoring at Harvard Medical School and the Academic Council Award for scholarship and teaching at the Cambridge Health Alliance. He also previously served as a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Policy Fellow at the Institute of Medicine in Washington, DC and as a staff member for Senator Edward Kennedy. He completed residency training in Primary Care Internal Medicine at the Boston City Hospital, fellowship training in general internal medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, and received an MPH from the Harvard School of Public Health.
